Consolidated Thompson Iron Mines Ltd. has named former premier of Newfoundland and Labrador and ex-federal cabinet minister Brian Tobin to an executive position as it converts to a Quebec-based iron ore producer.

Consolidated Thompson Iron Mines Ltd. has named a former premier of Newfoundland and Labrador and ex-federal cabinet minister to an executive position as it converts to a Quebec-based iron ore producer.

The company, which currently has offices in Toronto and Manhattan, said Brian Tobin has been named as the company's new executive chairman.

Tobin served as premier of Newfoundland from 1996 to 2001 after holding the post of federal fisheries minister from 1993 to 1996.

Tobin's appointment comes amid a flurry of personnel changes as the company relocates its head office to Montreal.

The company says chief financial officer Brad Boland has resigned, while Stan Bharti and Bruce Humphrey have stepped down from the company's board but will work as consultants.

Consolidated Thompson says it is now searching for a new CFO.
