Gasoline prices at the pumps soared in parts of Canada early Tuesday, even as the price of crude oil was little changed.

Canadians often threaten to stop driving when they feel gouged at the pump. But the last time gas prices spiked this high, in 2008, statistics show that Canadians by and large didn't alter their driving habits too much.

As Havard Gould reports, the experts now think it might actually start happening this time, as a new normal of high gas prices sets in.
