Webster and Cheikh travel to Leominster, another “station” in Shadrach Minkins’ road north to freedom. There, they meet lawyer and amateur historian Mark Bodanza, who has made it his mission to share the story of Frances Drake, an abolitionist and radical feminist who also gave Minkins refuge. Indeed, Bodanza has done a great deal to publicize her contribution and that of the female anti-slavery movement. Back on the road, the pair travel to Brandon, Vermont, to learn more about the myths and realities of the Underground Railroad.
