During the night of February 16, 1851, Shadrach Minkins reached the town of Concord by sleigh, then an important anti-slavery stronghold. Webster and Cheikh visit the former house of Francis and Ann Bigelow, where Minkins had found refuge. By chance, they meet the house’s current owner, who tells them stories of the Bigelows, a couple deeply committed to ending slavery.
