An easy, elegant way to fill your home with flowers that will never wilt
With fall just around the corner, the desire to fill our homes with small treasures that will remind us of warmer months as the crisp air sets in is strong. And if you're the kind of person who can never remember to water fresh flowers, this DIY backdrop made with faux florals might be just the ticket. Mix and match the types and colours of flowers, and add an optional finishing touch of fairy lights, and this backdrop will bring a touch of ethereal beauty to any space or gathering.
Here's what you'll need:
- 5 birch logs, in size of your choice
- 8 ft rectangular brass hanging chain
- Ruler
- 10 wood screws
- Drill
- Wire cutters
- Faux flowers and greenery, in colours and size of your choice
- Hot glue gun
- String of battery-operated fairy lights (optional)
Here's how to do it:
1. Lay out your first birch log, grab your brass chain from the middle and place it over the log. With a ruler, measure and mark 12" from the middle of the brass chain to the log. This will be your hanger.
2. Using your drill, attach both sides of the brass chain to your first birch log with a small wood screw.
3. Create 10" of space between the next log and attach both sides of the chain with a screw. Repeat this process for the rest of the logs.
4. Once all of your birch logs are fastened to the chain, cut the excess chain with wire cutters.
5. Choose faux flowers and greenery to adorn your backdrop with and cut them into small, aesthetically pleasing sizes. Before gluing them down, arrange your faux flowers on the birch logs in the pattern of your choice so you can get a sense of what it will look like. Asymmetry will make this backdrop beautiful and eye-catching, so have fun with your design!
6. Attach the flowers to the birch logs with a hot glue gun.
7. To make your floral display sparkle day or night, string fairy lights throughout the logs.
8. Hang your backdrop, stand back, and admire!
