How Canadian celebrities spent their holidays
From parties to promises for 2020, here are the best of their Instagram shares
As we say buh-bye to the 2019 holiday season, it's now back to reality for most of us. But just before we dive deep into 2020, here's a look back at how some Canadian stars celebrated the holiday season.
Christmas and Hanukkah decor, cozy time with loved ones — we saw it all on Instagram. Not to mention the stellar sendoffs to the decade and a few "new year, new me" proclamations.
Laysla De Oliveira
De Oliveira is the breakout star from Atom Egoyan's Guest of Honour and more recently starred in the Netflix horror In the Tall Grass. We saw glimpses of how she marked the season — from adorable shots of her sweater clad dog Lua, to a smiley NYE post with beau Jonathan Keltz. But I particularly liked the twinning Christmas pic with her mom showing off a Xmas tree and holiday libations. The Brazilian-Canadan included a Portugese caption that loosely translates to, "It wouldn't be Christmas without your mom imitating your look, right?"
Shenae-Grimes Beech
This post looks like it smells like balsam, winter berries and baked goods! The actress most known for her roles in Degrassi, 90210 and The Detail posted an insta-perfect shot in front of her gorgeously decorated tree. Shenae seems to be quite the holiday-lover judging from all the sweet posts with her young family.
Lilly Singh
Wooo! What a year it's been for talk show host Lilly Singh. I'm beyond inspired by her new year 2010 vs 2020 post showing her progression from York University grad to history-making late night host. I'm sure her cutie patootie doggie Scarbro is proud of his mama. Here they are sharing holiday smooches for the gram wearing matching penguin PJs. I can't with the cuteness!
Italia Ricci
Actor Italia Ricci and husband Robbie Amell are undoubtedly couple goals. We got a peak into their holiday preparations with this post from Italia showing Robbie placing a star atop their tree. The Designated Survivor star is holding their almost four-month-old baby, Robert.
Adam Beach
Could this have been on another of Adam's road trips (as referenced last month by Timothee Chalamet)? The Suicide Squad actor posted a pic nestled into a massive festively decorated turtle with lights and all! Captioned "There's a new Santa in town!"
Gigi Gorgeous
Not sure if this is Gigi's actual living room, but it's definitely the kind of space I'd expect her to have. I'm feeling every awesome detail of this silver-grey Christmas decor. It's not too showy, but just right. Gigi's pink outfit really pops against the grey velvet stockings, sparkly touches and the shiny silver-bulbed wreaths.
Jake Epstein
Degrassi alum Jake Epstein showed off his gifted "little tree/Hanukkah bush" in a spirited post. The actor had a lot to celebrate in 2019 with several recurring roles, plus (ICYMI) the two holiday movies he mentions in this post.
Simu Liu
While Kim Convenience's Simu hasn't really changed physically in the last decade, his glow up has been major from a career perspective. In a new year post, the new Marvel superhero talked about his transformation and future plans to continue to represent his community while lifting up others.
Chantel Riley
I was absolutely living for all the year of return posts that flooded my feed over the holidays. So many familiar faces graced the African shores of countries like Nigeria, Ethiopia and particularly Ghana; the site of the Afrochella festival. Frankie Drake Mysteries star Chantel Riley was among them, as well as her bestie, hair influencer Makeba Lindsay. These two are 1000 per cent ready for 2020!
Serinda Swan
Coroner star Serinda Swan certainly turned the lewks out in 2019. Blonde, brunette, shagged, pixie, long… our girl pulls off every single one! I enjoyed all her fun holiday-esque posts over the season, but a collage of her many faces of 2019 was a great way to reflect on all her projects last year.
Michie Mee
Oh to be a fly on a red plastic cup at this NYE bash. (Okay, actually that was definitely not a red cup kind of party!) Bad gyal Michie Mee welcomed 2020 alongside Toronto don dada Drake. Complete with a party hat, fur trimmed outfit and a winning smile, the Canadian hip hop legend posed it up with friends.
Winnie Harlow
How could I not feature model Winnie Harlow in this round-up!? Winnie won the season with her red-themed holiday looks featuring lots of cute cameos from family and friends. But this NYE look is something else though. Winnie celebrated in Miami with other celebs like Diddy. She wore an outfit with perfectly placed sequins, beads and flirty feathers. I'm definitely getting the Caribbean Carnival vibe she references in her caption.
