Hal Johnson & Joanne McLeod inducted into the Talk & Stroll Hall of Fame
We, the executive committee of the Talk & Stroll Hall of Fame, including co-founders Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme, are happy to announce this year's class of inductees to the hall. This ceremony's roster is headlined by long-time BodyBreak hosts Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod.
Very few duos, if any, have contributed what they have to the world of not only walking, and not only talking, but of walking and talking simultaneously, which is what we are all about and what we wish to constantly identify and celebrate in the world. What's the harm in that?
We believe that their enshrinement will be a great boon to our museum, and the fact that they are still out there walking and talking can only bring added attention to the hall and to themselves.
We do realize, as is often the case with legendary groups at the time of their enshrinement, there are some hostilities currently going on.
It has been well-documented that Johnson and McLeod were originally joined by Alf Aspinall, often referred to by fans as the "Third Breaker," who is also campaigning for induction. This is something Johnson and McLeod are dead against, having cut Aspinall loose when they returned from an early exercise tour to Hamburg, before their career and BreakMania truly took off, because he had terrible timing on the treadmill and the drums.
We believe that Johnson and McLeod will resolve this amicably and with the trademark good humour and positivity they have displayed in their televised segments for nearly 30 years of "participaction." And that's all we'll be saying on the matter.
Other inductees in this year's class include the Prancercise inventor and whoever the most famous race-walker is, can't think of any names, you'd think we'd keep up with that sport but I guess you're not supposed to talk in it so: whichever person is good and also talks while they do it.
That person probably isn't an Olympian or anything. You don't see Usain Bolt jabbering on while he runs.
Not to put down people who talk while they walk or anything. We realize that's our whole target demographic.
This year's ceremony will take place Saturday, June 23rd, at King George V Park in St. John's, Newfoundland. King George V could also talk, and also walk, though we do not have reliable information on whether he regularly did this simultaneously.
