Happy holidays! CBC Books asked authors to share their favourite Canadian books of 2017. We will be publishing these recommendations throughout December.

Lydia Kwa chose Dr. Edith Vane and the Hares of Crawley Hall by Suzette Mayr.

"The novel is wickedly funny and smart, shot through with touches of gothic horror."

Lydia Kwa is a clinical psychologist and writer based in Vancouver. Her most recent book is Oracle Bone, a work of magical realism set in seventh century China, in which an empress's lover squares off against an eccentric Daoist nun on a quest for immortality.
