What made this case unique?

• This case gives insight into the lives and challenges of those living in Canada working through the Foreign Workers program. It was and continues to be a challenge for individuals and law enforcement to understand each other's cultures and backgrounds.
• Though not directly created as a result of the Zalsos murder, the Diversity Resource Team at the Calgary Police Service helps to prevent similar tragedies.

About the detective

Retired Detective Tom Barrow served on the Calgary Police force for 25 years as a detective in the organized crime section and then as a detective in the homicide unit. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal in 2002, the Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner's Coin in 2013 and the Canadian Exemplary Service Medal in 2010. He retired in 2015.
