New drama, romance and high-stakes action in Canada's north as SkyMed returns to CBC Gem
Here’s how to watch all-new episodes of CBC Gem original series SkyMed this January
Dive into the intense lives of Canada's northern air ambulance crew in a must-watch medical drama that arrives on CBC Gem this January 5 with more romance, danger and high-stakes rescues.
What is SkyMed about?
Like Grey's Anatomy but on a plane, SkyMed highlights the triumphs and heartbreaks of a high-stakes job in the remote North, where help can be thousands of miles away.
Featuring a young (and hot) cast, there's plenty of drama, danger, hookups and heartbreaks as the ground crew, nurses and pilots all stay in a large house between flights to (often dangerous) locations in northern Manitoba where they save lives in the wilderness.
Watch | It's just a typical day in the north as Chopper wrestles with saving lives and keeping his crew safe.
Is SkyMed inspired by a true story?
Yes! Julie Puckrin developed the show, using inspiration from her nurse sister and pilot brother-in-law, who worked — and found each other — aboard air ambulances in Canada's North.
SkyMed is filmed in Winnipeg and northern Manitoba, featuring extreme weather conditions and even more challenging locations.
What's new for Season 3 of SkyMed?
Season 3 brings all-new emergencies and challenges on the job and in the characters' personal lives.
Recently sober flight nurse Hayley (Natasha Calis) struggles to resist her lingering chemistry with chief pilot Wheezer (Aaron Ashmore). Meanwhile, medical student Crystal (Morgan Holmstrom) accepts that she may still be in love with Jeremy (Braeden Clark) despite his new relationship with someone else.
Newly promoted to captain, Chopper (Praneet Akilla) is eager to prove he's a responsible adult – complicated immediately by his undeniable chemistry with the new chief nurse.
First officer Lexi (Mercedes Morris) gets a difficult call that dredges up the past for paramedic Stef (Sydney Kuhne) sending them both reeling. Pilot Nowak (Thomas Elms) finally returns to work after his accident and faces an uncertain future with his former lover Tristan (Kheon Clarke) as they struggle to move beyond the past.
An unexpected accident leads to a shocking loss that leaves the entire SkyMed team reeling.
SkyMed welcomes aboard two new characters: Chief Nurse Marianne Fereira (Nicola Correia-Damude), a woman with a secret and First Officer TJ Russell (Anthony Grant), a fun-loving pilot's pilot who's easy to crush on, but carrying some heavy baggage of his own.
