Canada's India Sherret wins World Cup ski cross gold in France

Canadians have won back-to-back gold medals to begin the women's World Cup ski cross season in the French ski town of Val Thorens.

Canadian ski cross athletes have won back-to-back gold medals to begin the women's World Cup ski cross season in the French ski town of Val Thorens.

India Sherret, of Cranbrook, B.C., won the women's big final on Friday, a day after teammate Marielle Thompson won the season-opening gold medal.

Thompson, of Whistler, B.C., added a bronze-medal finish in Friday's event. Germany's Daniela Maier rounded out the podium with a second-place finish.

Ottawa's Hannah Schmidt won the women's small final to finish fifth overall.

India Sherret of Cranbrook, B.C. won gold while teammate Marielle Thompson of Whistler, B.C., won bronze, on the second and final day of World Cup ski cross racing at the Val Thorens resort in Savoie, France.

On the men's side, Toronto's Kevin Drury won his second consecutive bronze medal after posting back-to-back third place finishes.

There are 17 races on this season's schedule, including Craigleith, Ont., with the world championships March 22 and 23 in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

For the second day in a row, Toronto's Kevin Drury won a World Cup ski cross bronze medal, this time behind a photo finish that saw Austria's Adam Kappacher and Switzerland's Alex Fiva share gold, at the Val Thorens ski resort in Savoie, France.
