Antoine Valois-Fortier, who won a bronze medal for Canada at the 2012 London Olympics, won't get a chance to repeat that feat, losing to world champion Takanori Nagase of Japan in the repechage.

Earlier on Tuesday, the 26-year-old Valois-Fortier lost in the quarter-finals of the men's under-81 kilogram division.

Although that eliminated Valois-Fortier from contention for either a gold or silver medal, he could have advanced to a bronze medal showdown against Italian Matteo Marconcini with a victory over Nagase.

Valois-Fortier was unsuccessful in the golden score extended time period and lost to Russian judoka Khasan Khalmurzaev on Tuesday.
Valois-Fortier defeated Emmanuel Lucenti of Argentina in the round of 16 after a penalty was handed out on Tuesday morning.
Earlier, the Canadian eliminated Loic Pietri of France in the round of 32 in Rio de Janeiro's Carioca Arena 2.

Valois-Fortier entered the Summer Games as one of Canada's best shots at a medal after winning bronze four years ago in London.

Valois-Fortier is No. 3 in the world in his weight class, according to the Canadian Olympic Team.
