Randy Carlyle was hired on March 2, 2012 to turn the Toronto Maple Leafs around after Ron Wilson failed to bring the team to the playoffs.

Although Carlyle ended that playoff drought in the lockout-shortened 2013 season, many of the problems that plagued the team before he arrived still remained when his firing was announced Tuesday.

Here's a look at some key numbers:

6: Games at which Leaf fans have tossed jerseys on the ice.

7: Number of Leaf losses in their past nine games.

4: Number of coaches fired in the NHL this season (the others were Paul MacLean, Ottawa; Dallas Eakins, Edmonton; Peter DeBoer, New Jersey).
