Harbour Grace, N.L., unveiled as Hockeyville finalist

The second finalist of CBC Sports' Hockeyville 2009, a competition to crown Canada's most spirited hockey community, was revealed Saturday night.

Harbour Grace, N.L., is the second of five finalists in the competition, which sees the winner earn the right to host an NHL pre-season game next season and receive $100,000 for upgrades to its local arena.

Harbour Grace will be competing against four other Canadian communities, including Terrace, B.C., which was announced last week as the first Hockeyville finalist .

This year's winning community will join previous victors Roberval, Que., (2008); North Bay, Ont., (2007); and Salmon River, N.S. (2006).

The four runner-up communities will receive $25,000 each in arena upgrades

Every Saturday from Jan. 31 to Feb. 28, CBC'S Hockey Night in Canada will visit one of the top five communities. Following the final weekend, Canadians will be invited to vote for their favourite Hockeyville 2009 finalist.

The winner will be revealed on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast on March 7.

Red Wings forward Daniel Cleary made good on a promise to bring the Stanley Cup to his hometown of Harbour Grace last July after Detroit beat the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stanley Cup finals.
