One More Thing Mom's Club
The holiday season is all about family and friendships.
So this week, we're bringing you one of our most popular programs form earlier in the season that focuses on those relationships.
The One More Thing mom's group is made up of smart, powerful women: mothers of children with complex diseases, some so rare they don't even have a name. These are kids who live on borrowed time, and whose needs would test anybody's resilience. These moms gather at each other's homes to share stories, give advice and to lean on each other for support.
The group's name "One More Thing" is a dry reference to the fact that there's always one more thing they need to do for their kids. Brian joined a meeting of six of the One More Thing moms in a living room in suburban Ottawa: Stephanie Paravan, Karen Belaire, Emma Gofton, Julie Drury, Kim McLeod and Mindy McHardy.
The One More Thing moms are so compelling that we have posted the entire unedited conversation below. Even if you've heard the episode, it's well worth a listen.
As mothers of kids with complex health problems, their hard-won wisdom is being put to work to help make our health-care system better. In the weeks ahead, Brian will travel back to Ottawa to visit Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario - where they've started a ground-breaking clinic just for kids with complex illnesses.
