Each year, chronic hunger kills more people than AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined. But Executive Director of the UN's World Food Programme, Ertharin Cousin, believes it's possible to end hunger in her lifetime.

This week, Canada announced it will contribute almost 100 million dollars to the World Food Programme-- the United Nations' frontline agency in the fight against hunger. Last year, it fed 100 million people. But keeping everyone nourished is a relentless job, and more than 800 million people still face food shortages.

Ertharin Cousin is the Executive Director of the UN's World Food Programme. She joined us in Toronto.
