Why your kid can't turn off a game when you ask

We know that the games on our devices are designed to keep us playing. So is it reasonable to expect children to be able to stop when we say so?

This story first aired in April 2015.

Kids have been resisting their parents' pleas to "turn off the TV and do your homework" for ages. Children have to learn to exercise some self-control, after all. But is it a different matter when kids are playing games on tablets or phones? Today's casual games are designed to keep your kids - and you - playing again and again.

Dr. Larry Rosen has studied tech use and kids and shares his thoughts. We also hear from Spark listener Coralie Cameron on her experience of kids and games, and from kids themselves on parenting rules around gaming.
