Jael Richardson is q's books columnist. She drops by every two weeks to fill you in on a new book to check out. Today, she'll talk about The Book of Essie by Meghan MacLean Weir. It's about Esther Ann Hicks, "Essie" for short, who's the youngest child in a family that's been on reality TV since she was born. At the start of the novel, teenage Essie is pregnant and she eavesdrops on a conversation between her mom and a producer about how her pregnancy will be "handled on the show" — will she get a "secret abortion" or get married?
