How the Belle Game learned to stop denying honesty on their sophomore album
Often, when artists experience a lot of attention early on, it inspires a new wave of creativity.
But for the Belle Game, a Vancouver-based indie rock band, the opposite occurred.
They released their debut album, Ritual Tradition Habit, in 2013 to a lot of praise. It was featured in Pitchfork, they were interviewed by Rolling Stone, they were being compared to music giants like Fleet Foxes and Broken Social Scene. Their music video for their song, "River," even won the 2014 Prism Prize Audience Award. All this buzz just for their debut album.
But, instead of cranking out another album, they took a hiatus. Now, four years later, they've released their sophomore album, Fear/Nothing. Today, the band will perform songs from that album live in the q studio, and chat with Tom Power about their time off and the process behind their new record.
