More on the show.
Q continues its special Olympics coverage this week, with Jian Ghomeshi doing interviews and co-hosting the show from Sochi while Kevin Sylvester hosts from Toronto. Please note that lineups are subject to change. Please check back for updates.
- In today's opening essay, Jian takes apart the notion that the glittering site of the Winter Olympics was built up from nothing. "What do we mean by nothing?" he asks, pointing to the community displaced and the ecosystem damaged by construction for Sochi 2014.
- Jian gets the inside scoop on one the most inspiring stories of the Winter Olympics in Sochi: Canadian speedskater Denny Morrison -- whose teammate, Gilmore Junio, stepped aside to allow him to race in Sochi -- on winning a silver and a bronze medal, and how these games have changed him as a person.
- Kevin Sylvester talks to David Finkel, author of Thank You for Your Service, about the traumatic aftereffects of war on soldiers. The journalist says covering the "afterwar" is entirely different from reporting from a war zone. "I feel quite honoured to have been able to do this."
- Jian leaves the so-called Olympic bubble to visit a residential neighbourhood in the north part of Sochi -- well away from the fancy shops and the tourist areas. He speaks to as many ordinary Russians as as possible about how the Winter Olympics have affected their lives.
