Brazilian artist Vik Muniz joins guest host Jelena Adzic to discuss how the Olympics can help uplift his country at a time of social and political unrest, and why he thinks the main tournament will be "damn jealous" of the opening ceremonies for the Paralympic Games.
"It's a different show altogether," says Muniz, who helped design the latter. Although his ceremonies were built on a tighter budget, he thinks its underlying theme will resonate widely.
"We're not perfect. None of us are."
WEB EXTRA | You might remember Muniz's sprawling landfill art projects, as featured in the documentary Waste Land. The artist collaborated with a group of landfill scavengers to make inventive, humanizing portraits — turning people from the margins of society into works of art.
