Edmonton Symphony's new conductor wants to connect with new audiences
"The less ego you have and the less you think about yourself the better it comes out" says Alex Prior on being only 24 and already the conductor of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.
Prior doesn't think about his age very often but says if it helps bring the power of orchestra to young people he is willing to capitalize on being young. As a young classical music fan, Prior credits his unusual childhood with his early success. He says "If I hadn't had access to great opera, great ballet, great concerts at a very young age, I probably wouldn't have been a musician."
Prior is more focused on bringing classical music to a diverse audience and aims to make this his priority as he takes on his new role with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Prior says he loves being in concert halls because, "they're a place that bring people together. People of every creed and age and origin are together and are equal."
