In the mid-'90s, the Wu-Tang Clan exploded out of Staten Island, revolutionizing hip-hop with a series of gold and platinum albums that combined wordplay, martial arts metaphors and street-level storytelling. The 10-member group has had a huge influence on other hip-hop heroes, with an almost mythological origin story. 

Lamont Hawkins, better known as U-God, is one of Wu-Tang Clan's founding members. He's written a new book called Raw: My Journey Into the Wu-Tang and released a new solo album, Venom, which is out now. He takes us through the history of Wu-Tang Clan in this edition of the q origin story.
