Prince's Purple Rain gets new tint from 'Desert Blues' artists

Have you ever heard of Tuareg guitar music? If not, African music curator Chris Kirkley is on a mission to change that. His ode to Prince's Purple Rain -- Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai -- showcases Saharan Sahel region's rebellious guitar music, also known as "Desert Blues". 

Surprise guest host Measha Brueggergosman speaks to Kirkley about the film, fuelled by the talent of local musicians and loosely based on Prince's musical drama. The filmmaker shares his motivations, his local-first process and what he's learned about this genre of "music in exile".
