The 'desperado' last days of the longest election

Gavin Crawford quizzes Jann Arden on the 'desperado' measures political parties are taking in the final days of the campaign.

As we near the end of the 11-week election campaign, politicians are starting to get a little bit more 'aggressive' with the truth.

To put it another way, they're a bit desperado.

Because News panelists Jann Arden, Anand Rajaram and Rebecca Kohler dug in to some of the more desperate moves.

NDP claims it needs 35 seats to win the race

For the final week of the campaign, the NDP fine-tuned its messaging, saying they only need 35 more seats to win the race.

"How do you know you're getting re-elected with the seats that you already have. That makes no sense at all," said Arden.

Host Gavin Crawford agreed.

"By that logic, the Conservatives could say, 'We only need no seats to form a majority!'" he said.

Trudeau ready to take on Putin, 'to his face'

Justin Trudeau flexed his rhetoric and vowed to stand up to Russian President Vladmir Putin.

"Canada needs to continue to stand strongly with the international community pushing back against the bully that is Vladimir Putin," the Liberal leader said during a campaign stop in Toronto.

"If I have the opportunity in the coming months to meet with Vladimir Putin, I will tell him all this directly to his face."

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau said Russian President Vladimir Putin is a 'bully' that needs to be stopped, and that given the chance he would tell him so 'to his face.' Panellist Rebecca Kohler imagined the two riding horses together. Topless. (Associated Press/Reuters)

"I picture him telling Putin while sitting shirtless on a horse and Putin is also sitting shirtless on a horse and they're just having it out, and then they start kissing." said Kohler.

In an unrelated move, Arden reported that Trudeau is now following her on Twitter.

Conservative MP warns of 'madams and all that goes with that'

Even the incumbent party is pulling out the desperate moves.

Conservative MP for Oakville Terrance Young said in a debate that the Liberals will mandate marijuana corner stores, safe injection sites and brothels, if elected.

He went on to say that the Liberals will mandate "legally protected brothels with madams and all that goes with that because the Liberals have promised to legalize the selling of women in Canada."

Conservative MP for Oakville Terence Young warned that a Liberal government would mandate brothels 'with madams and all that goes with that.' Gavin Crawford said the statement reminded him of the Dolly Parton film The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. (Universal Pictures/Terence Young)

"It sounds like he's talking about whale-bone corsets or something. It makes me think of Dolly Parton from that Burt Reynolds movie," said Crawford, referring to 1982 film The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
