Quiz: do you know the new laws for 2017?

As of January 1, what can you no longer do to your pet in Quebec?

Canada, have you been briefed on the new rules for 2017? On New Year's Day a number of regulations and laws took effect in some provinces. This week on Because News, Gavin quizzes his panellists on the details with a game called "Go Directly to Jail."

See if you know what's off-limits now.

1. If you are a peewee barrel racer in Alberta, as of this week, what must you have in order to compete?

Some critics worried this would make the kids look stupid, but then they realized they were already barrel racing.

2. A new regulation in Quebec has prohibited the practices of "docking and cropping." For a point, what is docking and cropping?

I guess those animals will never be popular now.

3. Travel ads in Ontario are now legally required to include what?

4. It's not just civilians who will be adjusting to new laws -  police in Ontario now have to follow much stricter guidelines before they do what?

5. Although door to door salespeople have not yet been outlawed, in Alberta and Ontario as of January 1, if a salesperson shows up at your door, what will they no longer be able to sell you?

6. If you're heading to a chain restaurant in Ontario, what will you now find on every menu?

So you won't feel vaguely guilty for ordering fries anymore, you'll feel very specifically and accurately guilty.
