Why this performer needed special permission to whistle inside a U.K. shopping mall
The Burlington Arcade in London has rigorous rules to keep the atmosphere quiet and reserved. One of those rules: no whistling, because that was how pickpockets used to communicate. Uniformed security patrol the arcade to ensure the rules are followed. However, Cirque du Soleil performer and whistling world champion Geert Chatrou is only the third person in history to be given the rare permission to whistle when inside.
