Photo radar changes in Alberta
The provincial government plans to ban photo radar on provincial and numbered highways, including roads that connect with provincial highways, and prohibit speed cameras at intersections. Instead, photo radar will be restricted to playground, school and construction zones. Last year, the province announced photo radar would be banned on ring roads in Edmonton and Calgary. And in 2024, it would work to ban "fishing hole" locations, which are areas primarily used to generate revenue rather than make the roads safer. Some of those changes were outlined in a recent memo sent to Edmonton city councillors.
