Is your clinic is owned or co-owned by one of the Big 3 veterinary corporations in Canada?
Is your veterinary clinic owned or co-owned by a corporation?
Before 2010, almost all veterinary clinics in Canada were independently owned by the vet you visited. Today, more than half of emergency and specialty hospitals and more than 20 per cent of all clinics are owned or co-owned by six corporations. Two of the three top vet consolidators in the country, VetStrategy and NVA, don't brand the clinics they buy — and that means consumers often don't know when they are visiting a corporately run vet. The third largest consolidator, VCA, does brand its clinics.
To help you determine whether your vet clinic is listed on one of the top three vet consolidators' websites, CBC Marketplace pulled the data from the websites of VetStrategy, VCA and NVA and created this searchable database below. The information in the database was accurate as of Jan. 13, 2025.
