David Bowie's last new songs will debut this fall, but not as a solo release. Rather, three of the music legend's final studio recordings will be part of the Lazarus Cast Album.

Slated for release October 21, the album for the hit off-Broadway musical will arrive a few weeks ahead of the production's debut in London. The project was conceived by Bowie as a stage "sequel" to the film The Man Who Fell to Earth, the movie he starred in based on the novel by Walter Tevis.

The three Bowie tracks are No Plan, Killing A Little Time and When I Met You, songs first introduced in the limited-run musical.

The Lazarus Cast Album will also feature interpretations of Bowie classics sung by the original cast of the hit musical, including Michael C. Hall, Sophia Anne Caruso, Cristina Milioti and more.

Bowie worked on the album along with longtime collaborator Tony Visconti.

Chillingly, the Lazarus actors and musicians recorded their songs on Jan. 11, arriving to the studio that morning "shocked and saddened to learn that Bowie had passed away the evening before," according to a statement.

"Their emotional performances that day are captured on this recording."

Bowie released Blackstar, his final album, in January on his 69th birthday and two days before his death, after having battled cancer for 18 months. Lazarus was also the name of a poignant single on that final album, which arrived along with a haunting music video.

Blackstar is shortlisted for the U.K.'s Mercury Prize and, as part of the ceremony on Thursday, Hall will perform the song Lazarus.
