Brangelina breakup sends ripples through pop culture world

Angelina Jolie's filing for divorce from Brad Pitt has sent ripples through the global pop culture firmament, with the decision sparking commentary from U.S. late-show hosts, Grammy-winning singer Adele, Madame Tussauds wax museum and more.

There is no doubt of the pervasiveness of the power couple formerly known as Brangelina, with widespread discussion of Jolie's divorce filing, made public Tuesday.

Aside from being a water-cooler topic, the separation and impending divorce of the high-profile Hollywood actors-filmmakers provided easy fodder for the pantheon of late-night hosts.

"It's pretty scary when even Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are like, 'Eh, I can do better," Tonight Show host Fallon quipped on about the comely duo.

Warning that he had "some terrible news" to share, Stephen Colbert told his Late Show audience the couple had filed for divorce on Monday, "citing irreconcilable attractiveness."

Despite all the "important and life-threatening and world-changing things going on lately ... none of them are as foundation shaking as the news we received about Brad and Angelina today," Jimmy Kimmel noted on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "It's always hard when two people you don't know and have no personal connection to split up."

"This breakup couldn't come at a worse time," James Cordon reasoned on The Late Late Show.

"In the face of a Donald Trump presidency, Brad and Angelina's marriage was the last hope for immigrants to be welcomed into this country," a reference to the pair's adoption of children from Vietnam, Ethiopia and Cambodia.

Trevor Noah made a similar joke on The Daily Show, telling the audience, "Seriously, you think you guys are devastated? Think about how Africans are feeling right now. These two were our only way out. How do you think I got here?"

In New York, British chanteuse Adele — queen of the heartbreak ballad — addressed "the elephant in the room" Tuesday night by dedicating her Madison Square Garden show (which she described as "two hours of misery") to the splitting couple.

"It feels like the end of an era," she told the crowd.

Meanwhile, Madam Tussauds, which celebrates celebrities worldwide in its wax museums, announced Wednesday morning that staffers have separated Pitt and Jolie's figures at its London attraction.
