Reunited 90210 cast pays tribute to ailing Shannen Doherty
'She's a very big part of the success of this show,' says co-star Luke Perry, who played onscreen flame Dylan
Beverly Hills, 90210 original cast members paid tribute to ailing co-star Shannen Doherty over the weekend.
Doherty is being treated for breast cancer and didn't take part in a 90210 reunion panel at the Rewind Convention in Chicago.
Luke Perry told the audience Saturday that Doherty was "not doing well right now, but sometimes her contributions [on the show] are minimized."
Doherty, whose character had an onscreen romance with Perry, has "been thrown under the bus. I've been accused of driving it. But she's a very big part of the success of this show. She taught me a lot. I'm glad she was my scene partner. She was great at what she did in the character with me," he said.
Perry joined fellow former castmates Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Gabrielle Carteris, Vincent Young, Christine Elise and James Eckhouse for a panel discussion attended by longtime fans of the 1990s-era youth drama.
Garth also praised Doherty on Instagram by sharing a picture Saturday with a quote, "Fight Like A Brenda," a reference to Doherty's 90210 character, Brenda Walsh.
Garth called Doherty the "strongest lady I've ever known."
Aside from Doherty, also missing were Brian Austin Green, Carol Potter and Ian Ziering, who was attending another convention elsewhere and joined his colleagues via videochat.
The original series, which starred Canadian Priestley and Doherty as twins from Minnesota who move with their family to Beverly Hills, ran from 1990 to 2000.
