One person has died following a house fire on Askin Avenue on Wednesday morning, according to Windsor Fire and Rescue Services.

Mike Coste, chief fire prevention officer, said fire and emergency services were called to the single-family home sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. ET.

Coste said an individual in the house died in the fire, but the identity is being withheld until next of kin have been notified.

He said one firefighter also sustained a hand injury while battling the blaze.

The fire is now out and cooling-down operations are underway.

Coste said Ontario's Office of the Fire Marshal, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services, and Windsor Police are investigating.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, Coste said.
