Sarnia Police Service investigating after 73-year-old woman pushed and robbed

Sarnia police say they are looking for a suspect after a 73-year-old woman was injured during an assault and theft.
The woman was walking near the MacPherson Fountain on Sarnia's waterfront at approximately 4 p.m. Monday when police say she was unexpectedly pushed to the ground from behind.
The man went through the victim's pockets and stole a set of keys, police allege, and when the man did not find anything of significant value, he "expressed frustration" before fleeing southbound.
Police describe the male suspect as being in his late 20s with a thin build, wearing a camouflage sweater, dark jeans and a black beanie hat.
The Sarnia Police Service says investigators are looking to speak with a female passerby who assisted the victim at the scene. Investigators believe this woman may have additional information that could help identify the suspect.
Authorities are also encouraging other witnesses, including those who may have been biking, running, or driving in the area at the time, to come forward. Those with dash camera footage or other recordings that may have captured the incident are urged to check their devices.
"While it is an unfortunate reality, when walking or exercising on public trails, or public spaces, a heightened degree of caution must be undertaken than in years past," police said in a statement.
The police department is reminding residents to stay alert, avoid distractions, walk with a group of people and avoid carrying valuables.
