Princess Margriet of the Netherlands was in Goderich on Sunday, honouring Canadian soldiers who helped liberate her country during WWII.

The Dutch-Canadians Remember As One ceremony was held at Dutch Liberation Memorial Park, where Princess Margriet helped unveil a commemorative plaque.

"The ties that bind us together are extended and transferred from generation to generation," she said to a large crowd of visitors. "I hope when people linger in this park, they will give the plaques a moments thought as to why it was named liberation park."

Princess Margriet attended the ceremony alongside her husband Pieter van Vollenhoven.

Veteran Bill Anderson fought in Holland during WWII. He was at Sunday's event and was honoured to meet Princess Margriet.

"There are very few veterans left, who served in Holland," he said. "I'm honoured to be here."
