Ganatchio Trail walkers still 'feel safe' after terrible assault
A 75-year-old woman was sent to hospital with severe injuries, after being assaulted in the park
Windsor residents walking along the east end's Ganatchio Trail Monday said they still feel safe, despite a violent assault that took place on Sunday.
"It's really appalling, I never would have expected it here," said Cheryl Smart who walks along the trail about three times a week.
On Sunday, police were called to the Ganatchio Trail after receiving a call that a after a 75-year-old woman was found unconscious.
The victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and a 21-year-old man was arrested.
"Now that this happened, you really have to go when there's a lot of people, which she does," said Dennis Smart about his wife.
His wife Cheryl said she often visits the park alone, and won't let one terrible incident affect her enjoyment of the area.
"I think it would be nice to have a policeman on a pedal bike," she said.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Branch are investigating the incident.
