Essex County OPP welcomes new K9 team
10-year veteran joins two-year-old Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix
The Essex County OPP is welcoming a new K9 unit to its team,
10-year veteran Constable Milan Matovski is joined by a two year-old K9 named Maximus.
They replace Constable Dan Harness and K9 Valor, who recently transferred to another OPP Detachment.
Maximus, a Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix, has training qualifications which include tracking for lost/missing and wanted persons and criminal apprehension.
In a news release, Const. Matovski is described as having started his career with the Burlington OPP and transferring to Essex County in 2013.
The duo recently completed a 20-week K9 General Service Course and plan to get Narcotic and Firearm Detection training in the near future.
"PC Matovski and Maximus are inseparable, for not only do they work together but go home with each other as well," says Essex County OPP Detachment Coordinator Glenn Miller.
"With an enhanced set of skills and the adaptability to respond to a myriad of calls for service, some of which are dangerous in nature, the position of a K9 member is very demanding yet rewarding."
