A 21-year-old man accused of a vicious attack on a 75-year-old woman on the Ganatchio Trail has now been charged with attempted murder.

Anne Widholm was attacked and left unconscious on the east Windsor trail early in the morning on Oct. 8. She remains in hospital in critical condition.

Officials called the attack "random" and vicious. Hundreds attended a walk on the trail a week after the attack to show their support for Widholm.

The suspect had previously been charged with one count of aggravated assault. He remains in custody.
