A woman has died after a vehicle went into Lake Ontario in Toronto's east end.

Emergency services were sent to Ashbridges Bay Park Road shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Firefighters rescued a man and a woman, one from inside the vehicle and the other from on top, a spokesperson said. Both were taken to hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead.

Four police officers were also taken to hospital to be treated for "exposure to the elements," a police spokesperson said.

It's not clear how the vehicle ended up in the water. It has since been removed, police said.
