The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs says a Toronto-born Rabbi has died of his injuries nearly a year after being stabbed at a Jerusalem synagogue.

CIJA says that Howie Chaim Rotman, 55, was in a coma since he was critically injured in the attack by two Palestinian cousins in November 2014.

His death Saturday brings the death toll of the attack to six, including a police officer.

The two attackers were later killed in a police shootout.

At the time the attack was called the deadliest in Israel since 2008 and drew worldwide condemnation.

In came after several weeks of Palestinian attacks on Israelis amid a background of roiling tensions over access to Jerusalem's most holy site, known to Jews as the Temple Mount and to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary.
