TDSB students to find out their marks by mid-July
Board changes its mind, will spend $180,000 to mail out marks
The Toronto District School Board will give elementary students a summary of their marks after all.
The school board had planned to provide its 170,000-plus Grade 1 to 8 students with "placement letters" amid the job action by teachers represented by the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO). But the TDSB said late Tuesday a summary of marks, attendance and grade placement will be sent out by mid-July.
Teachers provided the marks, but refused to enter them into an electronic system as part of their work-to-rule campaign.
The TDSB had previously said it would have to input 3.4 million entries to produce report cards.
"To ensure that all students and parents receive marks in an equitable and timely manner, the TDSB is deploying teams comprised of senior staff and business/operational staff to schools that require additional assistance," the board said in a news release.
The board said it will cost $180,000 to send out the summaries.
Kindergarten students who don't receive marks will receive letters next month advising of their placement for the upcoming school year.
The Durham District School Board also said that report cards will be sent home with students on June 25, though they won't contain comments.
The Peel District School Board said principals and vice-principals will do their best to help parents who request marks.
"However, given the [size] of this task, principals will not be able to provide marks in June to all parents who request them. Our goal is that all parents who request marks will have them by Sept. 30, 2015," the board said in a statement.
