Omar Hashi ID'd as victim in fatal north end shooting
The shooting took place in the area of Jane Street and Falstaff Avenue
Toronto Police have identified the victim in Sunday night's fatal shooting in the area of Jane St. and Flagstaff Avenue as 20-year-old Omar Hashi of Toronto.
Police say they received several calls around 9 p.m. for a shooting in the area of Jane Street and Falstaff Avenue.
Toronto police spokesperson Alex Li said callers reported hearing gunfire in the area.
In a news release, Police say Hashi was trying to get into the garage of an apartment building, when he was shot. As a result, his "vehicle rolled and hit the closed underground garage doors."
Upon arrival on scene, police located Hashi in a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the suspect's vehicle was seen leaving the scene eastbound on Flagstaff. The vehicle was found on fire a short later.
The homicide team has since taken over the investigation, police said in a tweet.
Police are asking anyone with security camera or dash-cam footage that may have captured the incident or aftermath to contact them.
