The driver of the vehicle, who was among the injured, has been arrested and charged with a slew of offences, Durham Regional Police said in a news release on Wednesday.

Police were called to the single-vehicle collision on Brock Road near Mowbray Street at about 4:30 a.m.

According to police, a black 2018 Audi sedan was southbound on Brock Road when it lost control, left the roadway and struck a large tree. Four people were in the vehicle at the time. Two were ejected in the collision, including the woman who died.

The woman, believed to be between 18 and 22, was a passenger. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.

Two others were taken to Toronto-area trauma centres with non-life-threatening injuries. They are listed in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old Quebec man, has been charged with dangerous operation causing death, two counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm, possession of an electronic device for the purpose of committing motor vehicle theft and possession of break and enter instruments.
