A man in his 30s is in serious condition after being shot at a shopping complex at Lawrence Ave East and Don Mills Road on Sunday afternoon.
Employees at a South St. Burger Co. restaurant said they saw a fight break out in front of the Jack Astor's in the Shops at Don Mills complex at about 3 p.m.
One of the employees, Jennifer Sharpe, said she was on her way to lunch when she noticed some commotion. When she returned, a co-worker told her it was a two-on-one fight outside the restaurant.
Back inside, Sharpe said she and her colleagues heard a "pop."
"Good thing I decided not go into Jack Astor's," she said.
Danyel Kousious was pushing buggies at the nearby Metro grocery store when he says he heard two shots.
"It sounded like a cap gun at first, but then I heard a couple of screams," Kousious said, adding that he saw a few people running and some cars speeding away.
Toronto police said they were called to the plaza after the victim walked into a business, saying he had been shot and was looking for help.

Police also said there were other calls around the same time for shots being fired in the area.
"Given the time of day, being a shopping area it's obviously very concerning," Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook said.
Paramedics told CBC News the man was transported to a trauma centre.
A suspect vehicle, described as a dark-coloured sedan, was last seen heading southbound on Don Mills, police said.
Update: The parking lot is now re-opened for owners to retrieve their vehicles. Thank you for your patience ^js
