Man attacked by 4 people with machetes in Ajax on Friday, Durham police say
Police searching for 4 suspects
A man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries Friday night after he was attacked and stabbed by four people armed with machetes in Ajax, Durham police say.
Police responded to a call about the attack at around 10:10 p.m. in the area of Griffths Drive and Delaney Drive, they said in a news release on Monday.
Officers arrived to find a man suffering from multiple stab wounds, they said. Investigators believe four men approached the victim when he was returning to a home in the area.
After a brief interaction, the men stabbed the victim multiple times and then fled on foot, police say.
The victim was taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. His condition has since been upgraded to stable.
Investigators believe the attack was an isolated incident and wasn't random, a police spokesperson said.
Police are searching for four men all believed to be around 20 years old. The suspects were wearing medical-style masks and hooded sweatshirts at the time of the attack, police say.
Anyone with information about the attack is asked to contact Durham Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.
