Two men who were initially convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of a teen at a Toronto restaurant in 2016 have pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter.

Twins Lenneil Shaw and Shakiyl Shaw were sentenced to 10 years at a court hearing Friday but, with credit for time served, both are now free.

Both men had been out on bail after winning an appeal that ordered a new trial last February.

A third man, Mohamed Ali-Nur, was previously acquitted on appeal. All three were originally sentenced to life in prison following a 2019 trial into the death of 17-year-old Jarryl Hagley, who was shot in the early morning hours of Oct. 16, 2016 at Pizza Pizza on Weston Road near Lawrence Avenue W.

In its ruling from last year, the appeal court called the Crown's case "far from overwhelming" and noted "significant gaps in the evidence."
