Ferry service to Ward's Island to resume normal winter schedule on Tuesday, city says
Fire boat that is used to break up ice has been repaired and back in operation, city says
Ferry service to Ward's Island will resume its normal winter schedule on Tuesday after being out of commission since Sunday, the city says.
The first departure from the city is 6:30 a.m. and from Ward's Island is 6:45 a.m. Tuesday.
On Monday, Toronto Fire Services repaired a fire boat it uses in the harbour to break up ice. Once it was repaired, the fire boat was back in operation, breaking up ice that had formed on the surface of the water, according to Russell Baker, a spokesperson for the city.
Residents who want to get to Toronto Islands can do so using bus service from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. Baker said the bus is accessible from several bus and streetcar lines.
"Passenger vessel service is expected to be back online once the path is clear and it is safe to do so," Baker said on Monday.
