Communities in Focus: CBC's coverage in Thorncliffe Park

CBC Toronto spent the first few months of 2024 in Thorncliffe Park neighbourhood as part of our Communities in Focus initiative.

The neighbourhood is facing big changes and challenges, but residents are rising up and finding ways to support each other.

On Tuesday, April 16, CBC Toronto held "Facing the Future Together," an in-person panel event at the Thorncliffe Park Youth Hub in the East York Town Centre. The event capped off a months-long Communities In Focus reporting project by CBC Toronto in the Thorncliffe Park neighbourhood.

Metrolinx will be on the lookout to fulfill hundreds of jobs as they continue to work on the Ontario Line. As one of their projects includes a train maintenance and storage facility in Thorncliffe Park that has led to job loss, one community group is advocating for the transit company to prioritize hiring residents from the neighbourhood.

One of the important pillars of Thorncliffe Park neighbourhood is the Overlea bridge. It connects Thorncliffe across the Don River to Flemingdon Park. The bridge is slated for a big renovation next year – and the city just released new images of what that’s slated to look like. Our reporter Haydn Watters was on the bridge yesterday talking to students who were using it.
