Young person charged with mischief following threats at St. Patrick High School in Thunder Bay

Thunder Bay Police have charged a young person with two counts of mischief and two counts of public mischief following a pair of threats made against St. Patrick High School in Thunder Bay, Ont., this week. 

Police said the young person was responsible for threats made against the school on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Their identity cannot be released by law. 

Those threats led to the school being closed Tuesday. There were also two hold-and-secure situation Wednesday, where police were at the school, but classes continued as usual. 

The young person does not attend St. Patrick, police say. 

The first hold and secure was lifted at the school around 11 a.m. on Wednesday after the high school was deemed safe by police. However, shortly before 1:30 p.m., the school board announced it would be going back into a hold and secure due to a second threat made.

"The safety of our students and staff is our main concern," the board said in a news release shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday. 

Wednesday's incidents mark the fifth and sixth time the school has had to take such precautions in the past month due to threats and is the latest in a string of threats that have also impacted other Catholic schools in Thunder Bay and across northern Ontario over the past month.

Thunder Bay police say other recent threats against schools in the region remain under investigation.
