Thunder Bay police say traffic in the city was interrupted for a little over an hour, after a driver suffered minor injuries and a utility pole was sheared off in a collision on Red River Road at Clarkson Street at around 9:30 a.m. Monday.

An eastbound Toyota pick-up truck was proceeding through the intersection on a green light when a north-bound Nissan sedan going through on a red light met the back end of the truck, police said.

The 68-year-old female driver of the Nissan sustained minor injuries.

She was escorted by ambulance to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Police subsequently charged her with a red light violation.

The 56-year-old male driver of the pick-up truck was unharmed.

Both vehicles sustained substantial damage.
